PAY THE TA
Bucknell Teaching Assistants are currently the lowest paid wage laborers in Lewisburg. Both, Giant and Walmart are now paying their employees $10+/hour, while most departments at Bucknell have a TA starting pay of $7.25 (PA minimum wage). Although the administration and department chairs insist raising teaching assistants salaries is impossible, the facts of the matter state otherwise.
BUCKNELL HAS ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY TA’s $10/HOUR.
This is clear by the amount the administration pays its own student laborers. Student donation callers, admissions interns and executive interns are all paid $10+/hour. We understand departments don’t receive enough money to pay TA’s $10/hour... but the administration (who distributes all funding) clearly has enough money to make it happen.
WHO IS MAKING $10/HOUR AT BUCKNELL IS TELLING.
By valuing the employees that recruit students to come here more than the employees that help students learn once the’re enrolled, Bucknell is showing they value student’s tuition checks more than their educations.
SOME OF US CAN'T JUST GET OTHER JOBS.
International students are constrained by their visas to only get on campus jobs. And the administration won't just hire every student who looks different. They have a fine tuned amount of diversity they want to show off.
WE DESERVE $10/HOUR.
If education is a priority at Bucknell, than everyone involved with educating Bucknell students deserves at least $10/hour. TA's are the ones who are usually tasked with helping the students who struggle through help sessions and study groups. Those students educations are just as important as anyone else's.
We’re not asking for much. We are just asking for what we deserve...
